Paris fashion week for new designers

Paris Fashion Week for new designers

Everyone knows that Paris Fashion Week is the cherry on the fashion pie. It is the last of the ‘Fashion Four’ but definitely not the least important. Rather the other way around, actually, and one knows that Paris matters more than New York, London and Milan. This is perhaps too strong of a statement, and depends a lot on what kind of a designer you are, but if you do well in Paris, you will be just fine anywhere else. As a result, with such a level of responsibility, you can imagine how busy Paris is, and how hard it is for the new designers without world-known names to get into the fashion week schedule and present their collections in the dream city. So what are the options at Paris Fashion Week for new designers? I would like to make clear right away that I am not even going to mention “having a show in Paris”, because this is not something available for the new generation of upcoming designers, who are only at the beginning …

Fashion collection inspiration

Fashion Collection Inspiration

When you start working as a fashion designer, understanding how to start a research and deciding on your fashion collection inspiration can be one of the hardest things to gauge and get started with. The thing is you can be inspired by anything, which is not really any help, when you still don’t know how to go about it. But, when you start having a feel about, what’s going on in the fashion world (read more about that here), and trust your intuition, you have a pretty good chance of doing something cool and worthwhile. Later a lot of the work, you will do, will feel like something that’s coming from deep within and just has to get out. One way of getting started with understanding how other designers go about their research is comprehending, what they have actually been inspired by; their fashion collection inspiration. This is not always easy, when you see the end result, as many, perhaps even most fashion collections are puzzled together by plenty different snippets of inspiration. It’s rather …

Fashion show trends ss16

Up-to-date with Fashion Show Trends ss16

It’s September! Fantastic, inspiring, surprising September – at least if you are into fashion. While a considerate amount of people follow the catwalk shows on pages like Vogue.com, and perhaps even share them on social media, while considering ‘could I wear that?’ (or afford that?), there’s another and more systematic and analytical task to do, if you actually study or work in fashion. That is analysing what you see, and extracting the information into the strongest fashion show trends ss16. Because every new season is a follow-up of the past season, which is again building on all the ones that came before. Understanding where fashion is coming from is one of the best ways to understanding, where it’s going. If you work in fashion, this is crucial for you to have a feeling about. So how to go about this analysis? I would recommend creating a folder on your desktop or alternatively a Board on Pinterest, as we also did, where you can store all the looks, you find exciting. Perhaps Pinterest is a more …

New in fashion education

What’s new in Fashion Education?

People who follow The Fashion Crowd (TFC) on Twitter will know that – among other topics – there’s a strong focus on Fashion Education. This is perhaps no surprise, as TFC rotates around education, young designers, who they are, and mentoring on how to make it in the industry. So what’s new in Fashion Education? What’s going on, and what do people talk about? The powerful fashion portal The Business of Fashion (BoF) lately published a survey about Fashion Design students in the UK. Whereas they were over-all happy with the education itself and the tutors, many felt that Career Service was letting them down, and that they didn’t have enough training in business to enter the professional world and make it there. The post was the introduction to launching some free courses in business, marketing etc. by BoF, which are structured in a comprehensive way and come in the form of concise and comprehensive articles. Because the thing is that online education is a boiling hot topic that many people have started looking into either …

Fashion journalist in Paris - Anastasiya Mozgovaya

A Fashion Journalist in Paris

So, what happens to me next? In the previous post of mine, I told you about the “before” part of my life, but what about “now” being a fashion journalist in Paris? When you are in university, as I was until recently, all you dream about is graduation. Right after finishing, it feels like you will be able to do whatever you want (meaning working twice as much and sleeping just as little), but when you do graduate, the reality slaps you in the face. There are some people, who are not ready for it at all, so they start panicking, but there are others, who just do things, no matter what. To be perfectly honest, I am a crazy combo of both. The biggest issue for graduates is to find a job, so I keep on telling everyone not to worry and that there is a suitable place for everyone, whereas in my own head, I sometimes imagine ending up as the biggest looser of all. I literally spend my whole life panicking, but …
